Member Societies
PACANZ has 53 member societies, each operating independently. Societies can be found throughout New Zealand from Whangarei to Invercargill. Individual societies will operate their competition festivals from March through to November. Some will offer up to eight of the art forms, others as few as one. The art forms are Ballet, Modern Dance, Tap Dancing, Highland and National Dance, Speech and Drama, Pianoforte, Instrumental and Vocal.
Governance
PACANZ is governed by an elected Board comprised of five regional representatives and an elected President. The PACANZ Annual General Meeting and Conference will be held in Auckland on 9 April, 2011.
Administration
The association is administered by an Executive Officer, Mrs. Sue Patterson and it is from this office that the monthly newsletters, correspondence, fundraising and general communication is managed. The Pacanz address is PO Box 2455, Wakatipu 9349, Queenstown, Telephone number (03) 442 2815, and Email admin@pacanz.co.nz. Officer hours are Monday to Friday 8.30am - 2.30pm.
Our Competitors
The competitions movement is the 'Saturday Sport' for the performing arts. As in sport, competition in the arts is a great motivator for the young performer. Each year PACANZ member societies have 12,000 children and young people performing 55,000 individual items.
Slogan
...discovering tomorrow’s stars today...
Many successful performers have ‘cut their teeth’ performing at the local competitions. Today we offer performance opportunities to children and young people with a range of talent, in a variety of disciplines.
New Members
PACANZ invites any organisation with an interest in supporting young performers to join the membership of the association. Annual subscription is $100 (incl GST) in 2010 and $115(incl GST) in 2011), and members are subject to an entry levy of 50 cents per item (56cents in 2011) entered in a competition festival. PACANZ also acts as a collection agent for the Apra Levy (Australasian Performing Rights Association), with Apra fees calculated at the reduced fee of 1% of door takings. Perhaps the greatest benefit of membership is the option to nominate senior performers for the annual National Young Performer Awards. |
